Yes ! I did it !!

I did it !!
I really did it !!

Voilà my first own skein of Alpaga Suri !

Two weeks ago I bought some fleeces of Alpaga Suri (see here).
I worked on one of them, Albator's one (3;6 y.old male).

I did some rolags with some combed fibers. In my hand, I have 12 grs of those fibers. In the background, there's 90 grs of fibers.

I spun roughly 300 meters of fine yarn.

Then I spun again to get a 2-ply yarn. I finally got 2 skeins of 71 m. each.

I've started to knit a gauge with a #4 (US) needles. I have 13 sts/ inch.

What do you think of this first test ?

This work took me almost 8 hours for 102 grs of fibers. I think I must and I'm able to improve my way of preparing the fleece.
Indeed, I have 2,5 kgs of fibers of Albator's fleece to sort, to comb, to card and then to spin ...
That means many skeins of 2-ply yarn....
I still have 6 raw fleeces to prepare ...

One thing again : on next 21st of April, it's my first blog anniversary ... and I plan a giveway ...

Before that, please Take Care,
and
See you soon !
xx

  1. This is surely a lot of work, but it must be a pleasure to handle with that fleece. Your knitting looks absolutely fine, I like it a lot when it's a little different, so that doesn't look like a machine fabric.
Have a happy hooking and knitting and spinning weekend!

  8. Your alpaca looks so soft. I bought a hank of that same color alpaca from our local farm. It's almost that same color.

Have fun spinning up all the rest! :-)

  12. Oh wow. I am so impressed. Many many years ago I had a fleece and did just that. I also made a woven rug with just the to lags as I had too much yarn from spinning. I think your spun yarn looks great. So even. Very very impressed

  14. The satisfaction of preparing your own yarn surely must outweigh the time spent on it! It looks gorgeous, especially from the swatch you knit up! Congratulations Geraldine :) I love the colour of your new yarn, and the skein looks so professional. You'll soon be setting up a stall in the markets!
