My life between cats and wool.

Ces temps-ci je vis entre mes chats et ma laine ...

Avec mes chats parce que je suis beaucoup à la maison, ne travaillant généralement pas les matins. 

These days I've been living with and between my two beloved cats and my wool ...
With my cats because I'm very often at home. I'm not working in the morning. 

Hippolyte, après presque 3 mois passés à la maison prend ses aises dans mon atelier. 
After 3 months at home, Hippolyte likes spending his time in my studio. 

Il adore être avec moi lorsque je travaille sur mon ordinateur. 
He loves being with me when I'm working on my computer. 

Il ne s'entend toujours pas avec Agathe de presque 8 ans son aînée. Nous les faisons alors se croiser pour éviter un trop grand stress pour tout le monde.  

He doesn't get along with Agathe, the 8 years older cat.
Then we prevent too much stress by making them avoiding each other and not meeting each other in the house or in the garden. 

Dans ma laine en raison de quelques marchés de Noël passés et à venir où je présente mon activité lainière. 

En Septembre dernier, j'ai crée une association de loi 1901 "L'Atelier des Laines" visant à promouvoir le travail de la toison au fil. Je peux ainsi présenter mon travail sur des marchés. 

In my world of wool because of some past and future christmas markets where I'm spinning and showing my work with the homespun yarn. 
Last september I created a non-profit-making association "L'Atelier des laines" (that means "the workshop of wool") which the aim is to promote the work from the fleeces to yarns. Thus, I can now have stall in markets to show and sell my work. 
On the pic below it's where I was the last weekend.  

Ci-dessous, le week end dernier. 

Le prochain marché est prévu les 12 et 13 décembre au coeur de la ville médiévale de Provins. 
The next market will be on the 12th and 13th of december in my medieval town, Provins. 

Je vais tenir un stand d'animation de filage au rouet. 

A cette occasion, je vais présenter l'ensemble du travail que j'ai déjà effectué cette année sur les toisons de mouton Texel et d'Alpaga.

I let you see what I've done with some ewes' fleeces and Alpaca. 
You probably remember some pieces I had showed here.

Ici quelques pelotes d'alpaga filé main et tricoté en une écharpe en côtes anglaises. 
Here some balls of grey alpaca handspun and a scarf knitted in 

fisherman ribs. 

J'ai également tricoté un col avec cette même laine. 

I also knitted a cowl with this yarn. 

Sur la photo, un bonnet tricoté avec un fil que j'ai fabriqué à partir d'une partie de toison de brebis Bizet. 

On the pic you also see a hat knitted with a handspun yarn made with a fleece's ewe (Bizet). It's very rustic ... and warm. 

Une toison d'Alpaga Suri noire que j'ai commencé à filer avec de la soie bleue.  Le travail est en cours.

A black Alpaca Suri fleece, I've started to spin with a blue silk. I'm still working on it. 

J'ai également travaillé du baby Alpaga ...

I also worked on a Baby Alpaca fleece ... 

Qui donne une laine somptueuse ... 

That gives a magnificent yarn ... 

Je me suis fait plaisir à filer sans chercher de la régularité avec de l'Alpaga blanc. Je pense que je les teindrai aux pinceaux.

I was pleased to spin without seeking to make an even thread with white Alpaca. I think I'll dye these skeins with paintbrushes.

Une toison noire a donné un fil super doux ... 

A black and grey fleece gave a very soft yarn ... 

J'ai pour l'instant 785 mètres de fil et il l'en reste autant à carder et à filer. 

I already have 856 yards of yarn and there's as much as I've carded and spun. 

J'ai encore beaucoup de nappes en cours de préparation et des filages en cours. 

Le soir venu, je tricote ou crochète pour répondre à quelques commandes. 

Celle en cours est un poncho pour une fillette de 2-3 ans. 

Je profite de telles commandes pour vider mes stocks de laine du commerce ....

I have a lot of batts to card and then to spin. I also have many spinning yarns on the go. 

At night, I like knitting or crocheting. 

I produce some handmade things ordered and currently, I've been knitting a poncho for a 2-3 y. old girl. 

These orders are a good way to use up some stash yarns ...

The last two weeks ....

These last two weeks, I was sooo busy ....

Busy to keep after my 2 cats, the new one Hippolyte and Agathe the older one. They don't get along ... and it's not easy, sometimes very stressful for everybody here in the house !! 

But both are alive !!! 

I must confess that I'm sometimes worried for Agathe because she looks stressed. Hippolyte runs after her everytime she takes a step !!!!

I think she's fed up and tired of this. It's a shame because otherwise, they could live together peacefully without running and growling. She seems to tolerate him in the house. The problem is that he runs after her too often !!

I was told by many people that it tooks months before they could start getting along...

I must be patient !!!

Ces deux dernières semaines ont vraiment été chargées et fort occupées.

Occupée à prendre soin de mes deux chats, le petit nouveau Hippolyte et la plus âgée Agathe. Ils ne s'entendent pas encore ... et ce n'est pas facile, parfois très stressant pour tout le monde dans la maison !! 

Mais les deux sont encore vivants !!!  

J'avoue être parfois inquiète pour Agathe qui semble très stressée. Hippolyte n'arrête pas de lui courrir après à chaque fois qu'elle fait un pas !! Je crois qu'elle en a marre et est fatiguée de tout ça ! C'est dommage car autrement ils s'entendraient pas mal sans avoir besoin de se courir après et de feuler !!! 

On m'a dit que cela prenait pas mal de mois pour que les chats arrivent à se calmer et à vivre ensemble. 

Je dois alors être patiente !! 

I was also very busy because of my work on wool.

I knitted it in a scarf in moss stitch. 

J'ai tricotée une écharpe avec, en point de riz. 

Can you guess and feel the softness ? 

I've knitted another scarf for my husband with a wool produced by a craftwoman I'd met in the Festival in the Lot (see here).

Avec de la laine achetée à l'occasion de festival Le Lot et la Laine (voir ici), j'ai également tricoté une écharpe pour M. et encore en point de riz. Je trouve ce point très élégant. 

I knitted in moss stitch too ...

Then, with my own wool, I've started to knit the yarn I spun few months ago (see here). 

This wool is the first I'd spun with my wheel. 

Vous vous souvenez certainement de mes 1eres pelotes de laine filée par mes soins (voir ici) il y a plusieurs mois. 

I'd plyed it with some stash of icelandic yarn.

J'ai filé des fils en 2 brins avec mes restes de laine islandaise.   

I'm knitting a blanket with squares I'll sew together later. 

I think it'll be a small blanket ... I need one ball of yarn for one square knitted with 7mm needles. 

J'ai donc commencé à les tricoter pour une couverture qui sera à mon avis, de petite taille. Il me faut une pelote pour un carré. Les carrés sont tricotés avec du 7mm. 

  

I also worked on some fleeces. 

One of them is a beautiful one : chocolate and white ... from a texel sheep. 

Je continue de travailler à partir de toisons brutes. 

L'une d'elle est particulièrement belle : chocolat et blanc ... issue d'un texel. 

After washing, I'd carded it ...

I got so many batts ready to be spun ... 

Après lavage, je l'ai cardée ...

J'ai un bon nombre de nappes prêtes à être filées ... 

Here I have almost 1,3 kgs of wool ... 

J'ai ici presque 1,3 kgs de laine à filer ... 

I keep them for next winter ... to play with my wheel .. like a princess ... 

Je me les réserve pour l'hiver prochain ... pour jouer avec mon rouet ... faire ma princesse ... 

donc suite au prochain épisode ! 

Pour finir quelques photos de notre Hippolyte, un petit frippon qui reprend des forces. Il est de moins en moins osseux.

An update

I'm really glad you enjoyed the pics of my last post. This beautiful forest is the place where I like and use to go for a walk when I need to take a breath.
About my pics, you should know that my eyes capture easily the smallest details all around me. I often can't do otherwise. That's why I take such pics with many details and that I love close-up photography. 

Well, today I want to show you other kinds of details, I mean what I did during the last 3 weeks. I knitted things but as you know, I was in a bad mood to blog ! 

Now, I'd like to share with you those woolly stuffs. 

J'avais prévu depuis un moment de vous montrer ce que j'avais tricoté pendant mes dernières vacances et la semaine passée. 

Pour commencer, j'avais tricoté un débardeur pour mon mari comme cadeau de Noël. Il est tricoté en 4mm avec de la laine Katia, la Basic Merino Flash (52 % laine vierge et 48 % acrylique).

As christmas gift, I knitted a vest for my husband in Basic Merino Flash yarn (Katia - US #6 / UK #8) (52 % pure wool and 48 % acrylic).

From the stash of this yarn, I made a hat that I gave to my grocer on the market because he's a kind man who uses to give me free vegetables at the end of my purchases ! 
He's been doing this for 2 years now so I've had thought that he deserved something !! 

Avec le reste de laine, j'ai tricoté un bonnet que j'ai offert au primeur auprès de qui j'achète mes fruits et légumes au marché. C'est un homme vraiment gentil qui a l'habitude de me donner des légumes gratuitement. Il méritait bien un petit quelque chose !! 

 I also made this red and white hat.

I created the design as I knitted it. But It turned out nice I think !

The pattern is now written. Thus, I can knit more of it with others colors from my stash. 
J'ai également créé et tricoté ce bonnet. J'ai écrit le pattern ce qui va me permettre d'en faire d'autres avec des restes de laine. 

I added some fringes on the edge of a poncho knitted 2 years ago (Big Merinos- Katia with (US #11 / UK #0 needles).
J'ai terminé un poncho tricoté en Mérinos de chez Katia (8 mm) en lui ajoutant des franges sur le bord du bas. 

With other stash yarns, I knitted a scarf and crocheted a hat for my husband (US #10.5 / UK #2 needles). 
Avec d'autres restes de laine, j'ai fait cette écharpe et ce bonnet pour mon mari. 

I also made 2 shawls inspired by the Hitchhiker (Martina Behm). 

One knitted using Kinna yarn (Cheval Blanc- (US #10,5 / UK #3 needles). 
J'ai également tricoté deux châles inspiré du Hitchhiker. 
Celui-ci est en laine Kinna de Cheval blanc et tricoté en 6,5 mm. 

An other one knitted with US #15 / UK #000 needles, with 3 colors from different brands (cream and gray of Super Doux, Monoprix and pink of partner3, Phildar). 
L'autre est tricoté en 10 mm avec 3 laines de couleurs et marques différentes (écru et gris de Super Doux, Monoprix et rose de Phildar, partner3). 

And last week, I finished a shawl using the stash of Malabrigo Rios (Archangel) (used for a sweater (here)) and the stash of Super Doux (Monoprix). I knitted it with US #10.5 / UK #3 and US #9  / UK #5 needles. 

La semaine passée, j'ai tricoté un grand châle avec mes restes de Malabrigo Rios (6, 5 mm) avec laquelle j'avais fait un sweater il y a quelques semaines. La bordure rose est tricotée avec des restes de Super Doux de chez Monoprix (5,5 mm). 

 The pattern is Lumi (Suvi Heillilä). It's an easy pattern. 

This shawl is 98.42 x 42.5 inches after blocking. 
Ce châle mesure 250 x 108 cms après blocage. 

After all, I notice that I've used a lot of yarns from my stash for many of these knitted things. That's great to empty some shelves or boxes of it sometimes !! 

Well, for your information, you should know that I've been writing the Lopi's knitting tutorial that I promised to you several weeks ago. It's coming soon ... 

Finalement, je me rends compte avoir vidé un peu de mon stock de restes de laine. Et c'est tant mieux !!! 

Pour information, j'ai bien avancé le tutoriel de construction d'un Lopi que je vous promets depuis quelques semaines. Il va arriver....
